Those ringtones that never work may not compatible to your iPhone.
iPhone only accepts ringtone in M4R format.
To use tunes as ringtones, it can be very easy-to-handle.
I use this ringtone maker program called Pavtube iPhone Ringtone Maker to help me design my unique iPhone ringtone.

Ventones

If u have a mac use GarageBand if pc then follow the instructions on this linkhttp://cybernetnews.com/cybernotes-create-free-iphone-ringtones-using-itunes-in-windows/
It’s wut I use it a little hidden gem in iTunes that let’s u convert songs into ringtones via iTunes
here you go
you can make them yourself for free from ventones, i do it all the time for my iphone 3g, whatever you do, don’t pay itunes $1 for a ringtone
www. ‘VENTONES’ . com
go to that site, click on the left where it says "Free ringtones for iphones" and follow instructions. its a safe and FREE way
but if you want to upload an itunes file that you purchased,
you will first need to burn it to a cd, then reimport into itunes as mp3 format.
the procedure to convert from itunes to mp3 goes like this
* Burn the itunes files to a compact disc and make sure that you burn an audio CD and not a data CD
* Use the iTunes to access the audio CD and add the media files to the library
* Right click the media file and select [Convert Selection to MP3]
Rather than downloading ringtones you can make your own for free using iTunes.
