Why did iTunes charge my card for a free app?

I just downloaded a free app on my iTouch but iTunes charged to my bank account. Does the charge go away after the order has been processed or do I have to pay for a "free" app?
Are iPhone apps the same for an iPod Touch?

u dont have to pay 4 free apps so u should contact apple and complain to them thats about all u can do
The same thing happened to me, yesterday I downloaded a free app to my iphone and a receipt was emailed to me today and was charged for the following:
1Touch Hockey: FS5 (FREE), Remove Ads, Seller: FlipSide5, Inc. $1.99
The above was copied and pasted as it appears on my receipt.
I called to complain and they couldn’t even retrieve my account with the receipt # or order #, they tried looking up my information with my email address and that didn’t work either, so they had to take my email addres and forward it to a different department and supposedly they would be sending me an email within 24 hours.
How can I trust the app store anymore.
